amit mediratta is a multi-disciplined artist residing in galway, ireland,
with an established reputation in the visual, literary and performing arts.
with nine solo exhibitions to his name, the artist has gained a reputation for creating experiences within cafés and restaurants that have drawn upon multiple art forms. each individual show to date has reflected a chapter in his ongoing autobiography whilst being created specifically for the space within chosen venues. these can be explored in detail in the exhibitions section. amit mediratta is also amongst the youngest of artists to have exhibited works in the prestigious kenny gallery, galway (who continue to represent him), and his vibrant, abstract paintings adorn the walls of many private collectors. these can be viewed in the gallery section. amit mediratta opening nights are the most significant feature of his exhibitions, with each creating an atmosphere unique unto itself: combining music, words, colour, canapés, wine and people. it is impossible to capture the magic of an amit mediratta opening night by photograph: their legacy exists only in the hearts of those fortunate enough to be present.
a self-published writer, it has become tradition for the artist to launch limited numbers of privately-printed books at his exhibition openings, which has led to the distribution of several hundred collections of his poetry and letters along the west of ireland and in dublin. 2010 saw the publication of an essay by the national university of ireland, galway, and the artist's receipt of the prestigious Peel Prize. more on this can be explored in the writings section.
amit mediratta is an accomplished swing-dancer, and has gained a reputation for his unique, acrobatic and theatrical interpretation of jazz through partner-dancing, entertaining thousands to date with his charismatic presence on the dance floor and the magic shoes he is associated with. for more on this, please see the dancer.
the artist is, in addition, a perpetual student of the classical guitar and an aspiring jazz singer [with a deep affection for french chanson]. as of 2009, the artist has chosen to temporarily cease his endeavours in the visual and performing arts (viz. painting and dancing), choosing, instead, to pursue a career in academic philosophy and choosing, furthermore, to apply his experiences to the study of aesthetics and the analysis of literature. not simply a painter who writes, nor a dancer engaged in philosophical contemplation, but, rather, an artist, amit mediratta continues to work from his galway-based studio, driven by ecstatic self-abandon and the nature of his vocation.
